Bumlets’s Prayer “Heavenly father,
By: Seven of Nine
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord, my soul you’ll keep. Thank you for
Jack and David and their influence on Pulitzer to bring the price of papes
back to fifty for a hundred.
Thank you for Denton and all the help he provided during the strike.
Thank you for keeping Jack here with us, but please also let him go back to
Santa Fe some other time.
Thank you for all the newsies and blessing me with such great friends. Thank
you for Specs and his always positive attitude.
Thank you for Pie Eater and him always being there to talk to.
Thank you for Dutchy and his being friendly to everyone.
Thank you for Swifty and his cheerfulness.
Thank you for Slider and Snipeshooter, and please allow me to be a positive
figure in their lives.
Thank you for Skittery, who’s a good friend, but please also bring some good
stuff into his life so that he’s not always in a bad mood.
Thank you for Itey and his unending loyalty.
Thank you Snitch and his willingness to be a good friend.
Thank you for Jake and his perseverance and his pressing me not to give up.
Thank you for Snoddy and his honesty.
Thank you for Boots and his endurance, and please keep him off the streets and
keep and eye on him.
Thank you for Mush and Kid Blink and for their jokes and pranks that keep
everyone in a good mood.
Thank you for ever-positive Crutchy and if You would, please heal his bum leg.
Thank you for Race and his desire to succeed, but please help him to be more
wise and not go broke on horse bets and gambling.
Please keep an extra close eye on Les. He’s still so small and impressionable.
Please keep him out of trouble and for him to grow to be just like his big
brother.
Thank you for David and the wisdom he has. If not for him, us newsies would
probably all be broke by now. Thanks for sending him to us.
Thank you for Spot. He was a great help to the strike and turned out to be a
good friend.
And above all, thank you for Jack. Thank you for his stubbornness, his
motivation, his attitude, his leadership, and for his returning to us after being a scabber and taking off for Santa Fe.
Thank you, God, for all my friends and all the blessings in my life.
Watch over mama and papa up there with You and give them a kiss for me. And
please, bring me the girl You’ve intended me sometime soon.
Thank you for this extraordinary day. And if I die before I wake, I pray, oh
Lord, my soul to take so that I may dwell with you in paradise.
Amen.”
